On this page you will be able to discover in details the creation of the Masthead and the choice for the contents of my magazine, which will appear in the ToC.

Masthead

My magazine will essentially featur arts through different approaches and opinions on cultural issues. The audience reading my magazine should reflect on the topics found in it and consider the diversity of perceptions.

This led me to consider some titles like : "Reflection" "Contemplation" "Variance" "Thought" "Musing" "Pensive" "Reflected"

The verb "Reflect" actually satisfied more the main purpose of my magazine and different definitions of the word can be counted. It will consequently be the name of my magazine.

This word is also mysterious and relative, it may then be intigrate and the viewer will be curious to know more about it.

Reflect : because culture reflects the belonging to a group and art reflects the perception of the world or of the reality from the artist who composes that art.

Design:

I would like the Masthead to represent, through its design, the characteristics of the magazine.

I searched simple examples of serif and sans-serif font. In order to try something formal, which will highlight the elaborated articles found in the magazine, but also captivated and easier to read for the readers.

Some inspiration I found on

To represent the artistic feature of the magazine I thought about reshaping the first letter "R" in a handwritten font.

Trial of the first letter "R"

Additionally  I decided to see different options I could make in order to illustrate the definition of the word in the typography.

Inspiration from Pinterest:

Trial:

While choosing the design of the Masthead I carefully made sure that the letters are easily decipherable from one another so readers don’t have to spend precious mental energy identifying letters.

Final version:

All my work for the masthead has been done on Adobe Illustrator.

-Question (Can performance art still touch the public?)

The genre of my magazine is connoted by the large fields of art represented in the titles of the articles (such as music, fashion, filmography, architecture, literature, street art and photography). As well as  some cultural issues and the diversity of countries represented.

My initial wish would be for my ToC to be symmetrical but also artistic, to contain as mush as visuals possible and to have a description under several articles' title.

However I might make modifications and changed this first expectation, regarding how my images matches and the font uses.
